I’ve Walked These Streets in a Carnival(e) of Sights to See
We went to Carnivale Friday night for Matt’s birthday. It was our second time dining there together. It just may be my favorite restaurant in the whole city. One of the reasons I love this restaurant - they take reservations, even for small parties of two! We started with drinks in the bar. Of course we had mojitos, and they’re so delicious. I ordered the Raspberry Mojito, which has fresh raspberries muddled in with the mint and lime. Yum!
Then our table was ready. The dining room is so fun with it’s bright colors, funky decor, and great Latin music. There are impressive large chandeliers made of oversized lampshades and a beautiful light fixture made of different colored squares of glass. One wall is completely comprised of built-in wine racks, which is very unique. The servers are very knowledgeable of the menu and any specials the chef is offering. I definitely suggest ordering what the server recommends. We have done this both times, and we have not be disappointed in anything we’ve ordered.
Carnivale has a great menu. We had the Ropa Vieja and Guacamole for starters. Very very tasty. I would also like to try the Empanadas and the Tacos de Pescado. We both ordered the Carne Aguayon as our entree. I had this dish last time we were there as well. It was so good, I just had to order it again. Manchego Cheese Truffle Fries? Come on! We also had the chef’s vegetable offering, Sweet Corn with Parmesean and Lime, and the dessert special, a Trio of Summer Fruit Sorbets - White Peach, Plum, and Blackberry. Such a delicious and fun dining experience! This is a pricey restaurant, so keep that in mind. It’s perfect for a special occasion. I’d love to take our parents here sometime. Carnivale is a must for anyone living in or visiting Chicago!
