My grandparents, Bumby and Papa, started taking me to the St. Charles Scarecrow Festival when I was just a little girl. I have fond memories of walking the path and stopping to look at each unique scarecrow. Bumby would take my picture with each of my favorites. Then we would walk across the bridge to the Craft Fair on the East side, and browse the tents. I loved the brisk air, and enjoyed wearing a jacket for one of the first times of the season!
I have more special memories of the Fox River with Bumby and Papa. We would put our bikes on the back of the navy blue Toyota Camry, and head West on North Avenue out to St. Charles. We would ride out bikes along the river’s windy path, and have a great time. Perhaps on the way home, we would stop at Edwardo’s on Rt. 83 for a thin crust pizza with whole wheat crust and spinach, and of course an IBC Rootbeer.
Now that I’m an adult, I just can’t give up those traditions. I wait all year for our fun family activities. Sometimes, its just Matt and I, and that’s okay. I love sharing them with him.
